The Applied Injury Biomechanics Lab (AIB) is leading an effort to protect crew from suited injuries, and working with providers to protect the crew from injury due to vehicle dynamics, and to certify the vehicles are ready for human flight. This can include assessment of suit & seat design, assessing a range of vehicle dynamics, establishing new injury metrics for crash dummies and using them in sled tests, full vehicle drop tests, and model simulations to help certify vehicles. Work related to suited injury includes tracking all suited exposures, modeling the human and the suit, identifying, characterizing, and developing mitigation strategies for suited injury risks, assessing incapacitated crew rescue needs, and suit requirement verification.
