Job Title: HHPC –Human Systems Standards Integrator

    Location: Houston, TX

Relocation Assistance: Not at this time

Contact: Kristen Gaustad, Senior Technical Recruiter

Background: The role of the JSC Health and Medical Technical (HMTA) is to execute the Technical Authority governance model for human space flight for the Office of the Chief Health and Medical Officer (OCHMO). The purpose of the HMTA is twofold with respect to human space flight: the transparent adjudication of crew health risk and the discharge of technical expertise. Therefore, the goal of the HMTA is to manage human system risks through fundamental integration of human health and performance requirements via programmatic and project insight and oversight, coupled with the appropriate support and involvement of subject matter experts. The HMTA accomplishes this goal through dedicated and cross-matrixed HH&P personnel. This highly diverse staff monitors how well human health and performance requirements are met, documents issues of unmet or under met requirements, communicates the status of these issues to HH&P management, Chief Medical Officers (CMOs), and HMTA Delegates, and prepares materials for communicating awareness or escalating issues as needed. This work is done for all current and emerging NASA human space flight programs, the Human Research Program, and other human-related technology programs.

This position will support the HMTA Standards Manager at NASA/JSC. The team serves in the role of integrators and subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure NASA human spaceflight programs are given a comprehensive set of human systems standards and supporting information. The integrator position needs to obtain and maintain broad knowledge of all human health and performance requirements and engage SMEs for the technical details. Our integrators are assigned to specific human health and performance discipline areas such as crew health, environmental factors, medical operations, physiology, anthropometry, strength and biomechanics, maintenance and housekeeping, safety, habitability and architecture, information management, and displays and controls.  Our integrators interface with OCHMO, HMTA and HH&P management.  Human Systems Integration strategies are implemented in order to inform HMTA standards and efficiently support Human Spaceflight Programs. Lessons learned while providing support to Human Spaceflight Programs are leveraged to improve HMTA standards and strategic processes.

    • Serve as Health and Medical Technical Authority (HMTA) Standards Integrator.
    • Update HMTA Standards and supporting documentation
    • Provide Human Systems Integration (HSI) support to NASA customers.
    • Coordinate with technical Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).
    • Coordinate with NASA HMTA Program Delegates.
    • Develop requirements mapping from HMTA standards to Program documents and corresponding gap analysis.
    • Develop position papers, presentations, and/or requirements interpretations for HMTA issues.
    • Participate in OCHMO/HMTA meetings, HH&P meetings, and internal team meetings; develop and deliver presentations as necessary. Responsible for compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental Plan: must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the Company’s safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate management
    • Responsible for compliance with the Quality Assurance Plan, policies, and procedures
    • Must maintain regular acceptable attendance level as determined by the Company
    • Responsible for completing all assigned training
    • Other duties as assigned.

    • This position requires U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status
    • The candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, human systems integration, biomedical engineering, human factors, industrial engineering, or closely related field and 10-year experience (or MS and 8 years’ experience, or PhD and 5 years’ experience).
    • The candidate must have demonstrated experience in human systems integration, including problem-solving and coordinating across multiple human health and performance disciplines, and demonstrated experience collaborating with multi-disciplined teams. The ability to effectively communicate in both written and verbal formats.  Highly developed organizational skills.  Advanced computer skills, particularly with Microsoft products (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project).  Demonstrated skills with coordination of technical requirements.

    • Knowledge of NASA’s policies and procedures.
    • Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., NASA-STD-3001) and human space flight is desired. Candidate should have the ability to effectively interact with customers at all levels.
